After acquiring our finca in Mallorca, we slowly began the renovation work. As mentioned in our previous article, this was a process that required patience. The transformation didn’t happen overnight but followed a rather unconventional step-by-step approach.

Our very first investment was in new mattresses, towels, and cleaning supplies. This allowed us to clean the house thoroughly, stay overnight, and truly experience it. We observed how the sun moved throughout the day, how light entered the house at different times, and how we naturally moved through the space. Which paths felt the most natural? Which doors did we use most often? Where would the pool make the most sense? Where should the car be parked? And, perhaps most importantly, where did we spend most of our time and feel most comfortable?

In parallel, we began sourcing inspiration and styles for the finca. Pinterest became a trusted companion as we created mood boards to visualize different design ideas. From rustic Mediterranean elements to modern, functional touches, we explored a variety of possibilities that matched the charm of the property.

Material sourcing also played a big role during this phase—researching tiles, finishes, and colors that would complement both the house and its surroundings.

We spent time preparing the finca to truly understand its potential. By cleaning, organizing, and simply living in the space, we were able to notice how everything flowed. This helped us prioritize the areas that needed the most attention and plan future changes thoughtfully. Every step during this phase felt like a small piece of the larger puzzle coming together, setting the foundation for the renovation journey ahead.
